Finlay Park, Columbia, SC
Finlay Park, originally opened in 1991, long served as a centerpiece for recreation, community events, and family gatherings. Over time, however, the park declined due to structural deficiencies, limited accessibility, and non-compliance with ADA and building codes. The redesign honors the original vision of Finlay Park while comprehensively improving accessibility, safety, and overall functionality.
The revitalized park introduces clearer connections between destinations, creating a dynamic park-in-motion that encourages exploration and continuous use. Improved circulation weaves together a series of diverse, interconnected spaces, enhancing accessibility, visibility, and user safety while renewing daily interest in outdoor recreation for the community.
“The visionary renovations to Finlay Park will enhance the quality of life in downtown Columbia while attracting new businesses and investment to the region,” said the Assistant City Manager. “Columbia’s residents have long awaited Finlay Park’s revitalization, and we are excited about the connectivity and recreational engagement it will bring to the downtown population.”
