Led by landscape architect Heath Mizer and accessibility advocate John Morris, our team conducts comprehensive accessibility audits and delivers tailored, practical recommendations that address mobility, sensory, and cognitive challenges. We bring a unique blend of professional design expertise, lived experience, and deep knowledge of ADA and IBC codes—integrated with universal design principles—to every project. We also provide full Landscape Architectural services in all phases of Design, Documentation, and Construction Review.
We understand the realities of tight timelines, limited budgets, and competitive bids. Working collaboratively with architects, engineers, developers, and contractors, we help integrate universal design from the outset by allowing teams to build smarter, stand out, and deliver inclusive environments that meet both current needs and future demands.
By identifying both visible and hidden accessibility issues, Universal Design Inc. helps clients create spaces that are not only functional and legally compliant, but also welcoming, equitable, and inclusive. We believe accessibility is more than a checkbox, it is a commitment to strengthening the public realm so everyone can belong and thrive.
Universal Design, Inc. is a registered Disability-Owned Corporation.

He views landscape as a powerful and enduring medium for artistic expression and approaches each project with a strong emphasis on scale, craft, composition, and contextual integration. He has served as a Peer Mentor at Craig Hospital, guiding newly injured patients through healthcare systems and life transitions, and has worked on public policy as a member of the Fort Collins Commission on Disability, helping shape universal design standards for city infrastructure. | Over the course of his career, Heath has successfully led a diverse range of urban parks, plazas, and public realm projects from concept through implementation, applying a critical and rigorous design process at every stage. Notably, he was the lead designer for Central Commons Park in Calgary, Alberta, recognized as one of Fast Company’s Top 3 Urban Design International Projects in 2023. A respected educator and speaker, he regularly leads discussions on accessibility, caregiving, and independent living in the community. Through it all, John remains grounded in his mission: to break down barriers—physical, social, and systemic—and create environments where everyone can live with dignity, confidence, and independence. | In addition to professional practice, Heath brings his passion for landscape architecture into the classroom as Associate Professor in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Colorado State University. He shares real-world insights with his students, and his research focuses on Universal Design strategies aimed at creating a more accessible and dynamic public realm for all. |
